COMPASS History The idea for Compass, Inc. was born when founder Vicki Leighty brought together a diverse group of musicians, singers and songwriters in October 2007 to envision a nonprofit organization that would expand the array of educational opportunities available for aspiring musicians, singers and songwriters for mid-Missouri. From October 2007-June 2008, a 9-member "Steering Group" met monthly to lay the foundation for the new organization. The Steering Group named the organization, drafted its mission statement and bylaws and sought input from representatives of the music community. Articles of Incorporation were prepared and submitted to the State of Missouri and effective April 15, 2008 Compass, Inc. was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in Missouri. At a June 2008 meeting, Compass incorporators voted in an 8-member founding Board of Directors. The Board prepared application to the IRS for federal 501(c)(3) status which was submitted in December 2008. Compass' federal nonprofit status was approved by IRS retroactive to April 15, 2008. - top -

News / Updates The Compass Board of Directors is currently recruiting additional members to the Board. For the remainder of 2009 Compass will be raising funds for startup costs of programs.
